Ulu Tiram road closed for a month

Repairs being done at the FT003 Jalan Kota Tinggi near Bandar Cemerlang, Ulu Tiram.

A SECTION of a road near Bandar Cemerlang, Ulu Tiram, will close for a month for repairs.

Johor state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the closure was done following two accidents caused by potholes along a stretch of Federal Route 003 (FT003) Jalan Kota Tinggi.

“The stretch belongs to a private developer, Johor Land. Maintenance has been done but damage occurred due to soil movement underneath, caused by an underground spring.”

To fix it, the developer would create a concrete foundation before covering it with premix, he said when contacted.

“This process will take around 28 days for the concrete to harden, followed by 48 hours for the premix to cool.

“Repair work started on Feb 2 and the concrete foundation is expected to be ready by the end of the month.

“Premixing will begin in early March and we hope to reopen the road by mid-month,” he said, adding that the developer was working with Public Works Department (JKR) to reduce the risk of future damage.

Mohd Jafni said the closure was the first phase of repair, focusing on the lanes heading from Kota Tinggi towards Johor Baru.

Work on the second phase, from Johor Baru towards Kota Tinggi, would start end of February.

“Each phase involves 100m and 50m stretches.

“The developer is spending almost RM1mil for both phases,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tiram assemblyman Azizul Bachok said there had been concerns about broken street lights along the road but the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) has fixed them.

“Apart from potholes, poor lighting contributes to hazardous driving conditions, especially for those who commute to Singapore and Johor Baru.

“Road users are advised to drive carefully during the road closure,” he said.
