FAMILIES on holiday in Terengganu should consider a visit to Kemaman Zoo and Recreation Park.
With over 75 species of animals to see, the 48.6ha attraction also has a pool for children to splash about after a hot day.
The zoo is home to among others, Malayan Tigers, elephants and tapirs.
There is also an aviary housing six species of birds.
The park has a herbs garden, local fruit trees, orchid garden and a hanging bridge.
There are buggy rides available, and other facilities include a souvenir kiosk and surau.
Opened on April 11, 2009, the venue is owned and managed by the Kemaman Municipal Council.
The zoo is especially popular with parents and children on Friday and Saturday which are weekends in Terengganu.
During a recent visit by StarMetro, however, several sections in the zoo were closed for maintenance.
If you are travelling from Klang Valley, take the East Coast Highway and exit at Chukai.
From there, follow directions to the zoo.
Travellers from the northern parts of Terengganu should take the Jerangau-Jabor Highway or the Kuala Dungun-Kemaman coastal road which goes past major townships such as Paka and Kijal.
The zoo opens daily from 9am to 5pm. On Friday, it closes from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
There is ample parking available.
Ticket prices for the zoo and pool entry are sold separately.
