Free Smart Selangor bus records few dozen million ridership

THE free Smart Selangor bus service has recorded a ridership of more than 67 million through the main routes across the state due to its good frequency with arrivals every 15min.

The passenger counts were made since the service was launched in 2015 until Dec 2023.

State housing and culture committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah told the Selangor State Assembly that the bus service was introduced to help the low- and middle-income groups, not to rake in profits.

“Selangor government has spent RM15,025,398.30 for the overall operations and maintenance cost to the firm appointed by the local councils for the service throughout last year,” he said.

Borhan was responding to questions from Gunarajah R. George (PH-Sentosa) on whether the free bus service had achieved its target and what was the cost incurred to provide the free public transport.

Smart Selangor buses are disabled-friendly and equipped with closed-circuit cameras (CCTV) and WiFi services.
