SOME 80 students from schools in the Seri Delima constituency are taking part in a 3D printing workshop, which will end this month.

The programme, jointly organised by the Seri Delima service centre and Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation − Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (Seameo-Recsam), was meant to spark interest among students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education.

It aimed to provide hands-on learning opportunities and foster creativity, collaboration and critical thinking skills, as well as 3D printing technology to help prepare young learners for a competitive future driven by innovation and technology.

Seameo-Recsam director Dr Azman Jusoh said such programmes would play a key role in building critical thinking and honing creative talents to solve real-life problems through the design process.

“Through this initiative, we also hope to enhance and elevate awareness of STEM education among students, as well as encourage the use of Tinkercard software to design the models,” Azman said in his speech during the opening ceremony of the workshop at Seameo-Recsam in Jelutong.

The initiative was also supported by Tech Dome Penang, Penang STEM and Fabbxible Technology.

The workshops are conducted by trainers from Seameo-Recsam and Penang Tech Dome.

Also present were Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan Hooi Peng, Penang STEM general manager Richard Chung, Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi and Fabbxible Technology chief executive officer Ong Chern Chung.
