Poor students from B40 and M40 groups who need school uniforms can collect them at Ummah Distribution Centre (UDC) Sibu, Sarawak.
According to a UDC spokesman, collection could be done during office hours from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.
This comes after 62 poor students from primary and secondary schools in Sibu collected uniforms under the Al Bait School Clothing Infak Project held in conjunction with a back-to-school programme.
The uniforms were donated by Al Bait Leadership Foundation (YKAB) to asnaf (tithe recipient) children with the hope of increasing their enthusiasm for learning.
“This project aims to prepare asnaf children who will enter the new school session, as well as help reduce their parents’ burden in getting new uniforms,” the spokesman added.
In addition, the project also aims to share joy with the needy in preparation for Hari Raya Aidilfitri and instil a culture of contributing to the community.
The project was launched by YKAB manager Abdul Hafiz Zainalabidin and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak Sibu division acting head Siti Azliyani Jasini at Sarawak Islamic Complex in Sibu.
The project, implemented since Ramadan 2023 in Kuching, has received encouraging response from the public.
The school uniforms were contributed by more than 400 people from around Kuching.
The project has also been expanded to other parts of the state such as Samarahan, Sri Aman, Mukah, Miri, Serian and Bintulu.
