Zachary William Taylor, a 16-year-old student at Marlborough College Malaysia, raised RM5,000 for cancer treatment after completing an 85km run along the coast of Singapore.
This endeavour, supported by Gleneagles Hospital Johor (GHJ), is aimed at providing financial aid for patients diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer.
The funds raised are earmarked for the Breast Cancer Support Group (BCSG), Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (TLJCF) and iCare Cancer Support Association Johor (iCare) to benefit 25 people.
Zachary completed the run in an impressive 15.5 hours, and his fundraising page, hosted on gogetfunding.com, showed significant support.
GHJ chief executive officer Dr Kamal Amzan expressed the hospital’s support for the commendable initiative.
“We are incredibly proud to be part of Zachary’s journey.
“His dedication to helping those in need aligns perfectly with our mission at GHJ.
“It is through the efforts of such dedicated individuals that the community can have accessibility to care.
“This is important for healthcare in Johor to continue to grow,” said Dr Kamal who is also regional chief executive officer of Southern and Eastern Hospitals at IHH Malaysia.
GHJ will provide RM5,000 to match the amount raised by Zachary.
His mother Prof Rebecca Taylor, who is the pro vice- chancellor at the University of Southampton UK and University of Southampton Malaysia chief executive officer, said she was proud of Zachary.
“It is heartwarming that Zachary’s effort could have positive impact on the lives of others.
“We hope this encourages more young people to believe that they can make a significant difference too through similar charity initiatives,” she said.
