A parking tout operating in Kuala Lumpur was sentenced to 30 days in jail by the Magistrate’s Court following a series of Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) raids in the city centre.
Four other individuals were sentenced to 14-day jail, while three were fined for operating as parking touts.
DBKL, in a statement, said a special ops team from its Enforcement Department conducted its fourth “Ops Jaga” this year at Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Jalan Sri Hartamas, Jalan Beremi, Jalan Tengkat Tong Shin, Jalan Alor and Jalan Raja Alang on March 7. “Through DBKL’s monitoring and investigation at the hotspot areas, individuals were found collecting parking fees without approval at public areas.
“This included the roadside, sidewalks and parking lots both in the day and at night,” DBKL said in a press statement.
Those found committing the offence included three Malaysians and five foreigners.
“The individuals were brought to the DBKL Enforcement Department for processing and investigation papers were opened.
“Enforcement action was taken under Section 50(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” said DBKL.
In January, DBKL issued a statement saying there were 11 licensed car jockey parking facilities in Kuala Lumpur.
DBKL, in another raid with the Customs Department and Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department, carried out enforcement action against nightclubs and other entertainment premises on March 9.
The outlets were located on Jalan Sungai Besi and Jalan Metro Pudu in the city.
During the raid, one business premises was ordered to cease operations as it was found to be operating without a valid licence.
DBKL also seized the illegal nightclub’s equipment and opened an investigation paper under Section 4(1)(b) of the Entertainment Act 1992 for operating an entertainment business without licence.
“Music equipment, such as record turntables and microphones, were among the items seized.
“The seized items have been brought to DBKL’s storage facility in Taman Miharja for processing and documentation,” the local authority said.
DBKL added that such enforcement actions would be carried out from time to time in Kuala Lumpur.
