JOHOR BARU: Close cooperation between police and the media is important in fighting crime and maintaining stability in the country, says Comm M. Kumar.
The Johor police chief added that police depend on accurate reporting by the media to provide the public with reliable information in real-time, thus preventing unnecessary distress.
“I personally view that there is not much difference between the two; both the police and the media work tirelessly round the clock to disseminate trustworthy information to the public.
“I hope that this collaboration will continue to contribute to the nation's development positively.
“At the same time ethical writing is very important, especially when it comes to reporting, as information would need to be verified so that people would get the correct information,” he said.
He said this during a speech at the Johor police and Kelab Media Johor breaking fast programme at Johor police headquarters, here, on Monday (March 18).
He reiterated that both the police and the media share the responsibility of upholding the nation's stability and serving the public effectively.
Comm M. Kumar also expressed his optimism that this close partnership would enhance crime-fighting efforts in the state.
The event was also attended by Johor Media Club and Gabungan Kelab Media Malaysia (GKMM) president, Mohamad Fauzi Ishak.
