A FLOWER backdrop is much sought after when it comes to taking photos or videos.

With the tecoma season in full bloom, one can now click away with a bed of pinkish purple and white flowers as a backdrop.

These flowers give locals a chance to experience Japanese sakura or cherry blossoms without having to head to Japan.

In Penang, local authorities have been planting the trees on a large scale around the state, which has nearly 10,000 trees including 3,000 in Seberang Perai district.

These trees line various parks and streets and when they drop, they leave a carpet of beautiful flowers.

Carpets of falling flowers are a common scene on the island especially in Batu Ferringhi, Sungai Ara, Bayan Baru and Relau, as well as at the grounds of Universiti Sains Malaysia in Gelugor.

One can also see these flowers in various parts of the mainland and Kedah too during this time of the year.

The tecoma has a short flowering season that usually takes place between February and April.

The tecoma tree originates from South and Central America.
