OVER 700 participants from diverse sectors and regions took part in the Occupational Safety and Health Conference 2024 (OSHCOF 2024).
The conference served as a crucial platform for stakeholders committed to improving road safety outcomes.
This inaugural event was successfully organised by non-governmental organisation (NGO) Alliance for a Safe Community with OMK Consultant Sdn Bhd.
The two day conference with themed “Road Safety Heroes: Road Traffic Safety Management,” was held at Bangi Resort Hotel in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor.
The event included both online and physical sessions, aimed at promoting road safety awareness and enhancing road traffic safety management strategies.
Alliance chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, who welcomed the participants to the conference, said he was pleased with the overwhelming response from stakeholders.
He also spoke about using Alliance as platform to champion road safety programmes for the benefit of the community.
“I am delighted by the overwhelming response to our very first occupational safety and health conference highlighting road safety,” he said.
He also thanked the participants, speakers, sponsors and OMK for their contributions to the conference.
The event underscored the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in promoting a culture of safety, particularly road safety, across industries.
The conference was launched by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) director-general Mohd Hatta Zakaria.
It started with a keynote presentation from Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) chairman Dr Wong Shaw Voon, highlighting the Global Pandemic – Prevent Losing Life On The Road.
Lee said with road traffic accidents remaining a pressing concern in Malaysia, the conference provided a vital platform for stakeholders to collaborate, share insights and explore innovative approaches to mitigate road traffic risks.
Other relevant speakers from the police, Social Security Organisation (Socso) and DOSH presented the latest data and insights to help reduce road traffic and commuting accidents.
Alliance Training and Consultancy head Chin Yew Sin, who was one of the speakers, presented a talk entitled “Shift Your Mind and Your Commute”.
He said behavioural change and being grounded about safety were necessary prerequisite to being a road safety hero.
Lee, in his closing speech, said OSHCOF 2025, would include a special award presentation recognising outstanding contributions to road safety initiatives.
He also expressed his hope the participants would come back next year to share their success stories following this year’s conference.
All the participants received their certificates at the end of the conference.
