IN support of National Colorectal Awareness Month in March, Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) is supporting National Cancer Society of Malaysia’s (NCSM) Adults’ Home of Hope with a one-month’s supply of essential nutritional supplement for 25 patients.

The contribution of 100 cans of milk powder was SJMC’s way of supporting cancer patients through their treatment journey, the hospital said in a press statement.

“Proper nutrition is crucial for cancer patients because their bodies need the nutrients to undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy,” said Catherine Lee, director of SJMC Cancer and Radiosurgery Centre.

A successful journey requires comprehensive care, addressing not just medical needs but also the well-being of patients and their families, she said.

“We are committed to supporting NCSM’s mission and this aligns with SJMC’s firm belief in people and community, both in achieving good clinical outcomes and contributing to the larger good of healthcare sustainability,” said Lee.

The collaboration highlights the importance of community partnerships in addressing the needs of cancer patients, with patients having greater access to the resources and support they need, she added.

NCSM president Datuk Dr Saunthari Somasundaram said: “Cancer patients often face unique nutritional challenges, making specialised supplements a vital part of their care.

“We are grateful that SJMC’s contribution will help ease this burden for residents at the Adults’ Home of Hope.”

Adults’ Home of Hope provides free accommodation to adult cancer patients and their caregivers who reside outside of Kuala Lumpur, while they undergo cancer treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
