AS a proponent of sustainable development, Sime Darby Property Bhd is taking a step towards a greener future through its “Jom Raya” campaign to foster a deeper connection between people and the planet.
It shows how celebrations can be transformed into opportunities for positive change.
The campaign features the “Go Green – Let’s Celebrate Raya Sustainably” initiative.
Recognising textile waste as a major environmental concern, it aims to encourage people to rethink how they discard unwanted clothes and fabrics.
Its goal is to collect 72 tonnes of fabric by the end of this year.
This initiative extends the lifespan of the fabrics, to minimise our carbon footprint.
Sime Darby Property understands that sustainability is a collective responsibility, said chief marketing and sales officer Datuk Lai Shu Wei.
He said the company was enabling the public to actively participate in the eco-friendly efforts.
It has partnered with Kloth Circularity (formerly Kloth Cares) to ensure these fabrics are given a “second life”.
The fabrics will be distributed to those in need or upcycled into new items.
Throughout this month, the company is organising various community-building activities across its selected townships.
At Bandar Bukit Raja in Klang and Nilai Impian in Negri Sembilan, residents and the public supported the fabric donation drive and an initiative to distribute bubur lambuk.
Lending their star power to the cause were chef Datuk Ismail Ahmad, Maria Tunku Sabri, Mas Idayu, Atilia Haron and Mimifly.
Ismail and Mas Idayu also took the opportunity to educate the people on practising zero food waste when cooking.
The Sime Darby Property team also held a “Jom Sahur Together” programme at Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam.
More than 100 people attended the event including local celebrities Idzham Ismail, Haziq Husni, Dayah Bakar and Uyaina Arshad.
Keeping the momentum going, the company is gearing up for its next stops at Bandar Universiti Pagoh in Johor and PARC at Taman Subang Ria, Petaling Jaya, this weekend.
