Outreach programme to benefit 150 needy families in Klang


WCTGives is a platform for the company’s employees to do community volunteering.

A PROGRAMME called the “Golden Harvest” Community Outreach has been launched to benefit 150 underprivileged families in the vicinity of Klang, Selangor.

Spearheaded by WCT Holdings Bhd (WCT Group), it is launched in partnership with social enterprise Pasar Grub and non-governmental organisation Grace Community Services.

WCT Group gave out 300 food packs comprising fresh fruits and vegetables as well as dried goods during the recent Chinese New Year.

This outreach programme reduced food waste through the purchase of 2,480kg of surplus goods from farms or distributors.

It also allowed WCT to be part of a circular ecosystem supporting local businesses and 600 marginalised peoples, including the urban poor and elderly.

WCT managing director Datuk Lee Tuck Fook said, “We recognise the challenges faced by the needy communities in acquiring fresh groceries for festive meals preparation.

“Therefore, our goal was to uplift and enhance the festive spirit of the community within our operations,” Lee said, adding that the Golden Harvest programme had also resulted in a reduction equivalent to 4.712 tonnes of carbon dioxide just on waste from the production to consumption process.

“WCT recognises the growing importance of achieving a harmonious balance between profitability and social responsibility, ensuring that our business endeavours create value for our stakeholders and society at large,” said Lee, while reaffirming the company’s aim of “Building Sustainable and Thriving Communities” through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Aptly named “WCTGives”, the CSR plan was launched in 2022 and encompasses three pillars, namely #WeCareTogether, #EducationforAll, and #AGreenerTomorrow.

Each of these pillars has various programmes to improve education for the underprivileged and care for the environment.

A percentage of WCT Group’s total annual revenue funds CSR programmes across all the group’s business divisions, with RM2.9mil spent in 2023.

Since its inception, WCTGives has positively impacted 680 beneficiaries and invested about RM326,007.79 on B40 families and women, underprivileged senior citizens, as well as students.

WCTGives is also a platform for the company’s employees to do community volunteering, which numbered 301 hours to date.

“WCTGives not only embodies our group’s purpose to contribute to society and environment, but it also underscores our dedication to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through the launch of our CSR initiatives,” said Lee.

Under the #EducationforAll pillar, WCT’s Property Development Division recently donated about RM210,000 to SK Seri Indah, Taman OUG, Kuala Lumpur, for new equipment for the school’s playground.

These were set up at two designated locations within the school compound to benefit 272 students from the kindergarten and primary levels.
