RESIDENTS living in Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya, Selangor are concerned over land clearing activities on Bukit Lanjan West Hill, facing their condo.

They are worried that it may be prelude to a new highway project that could cut across the land and disrupt their lives.

Joseph Foo, a resident of Perdana View condo in PJU 8/1 for about five years, was alarmed over the land clearing.

“Some residents spoke to the contractor who was clearing the land and were told that soil tests were being done.

“However, we could not obtain more information,” he said, adding that residents were worried that a highway was being planned in the area.

“I would like to highlight to the Public Complaints Bureau, the Highway Planning Division of the Works Ministry and Selangor government that they must not allow any more highways here if that is indeed the plan,” he said.

Foo said the neighbourhood was a peaceful one with greenery and they wanted it to remain that way.

He added that the land in question was located under high-tension cables and should not be developed.

Another resident, Yvonne Chew, said she had been living in Damansara Perdana for about 18 years and was attracted to the area’s green surroundings.

Now, she is afraid it is in danger of disappearing.

Resident PS Lee said he was concerned about possible landslides from the land clearing.

He has been living in the neighbourhood since 2007.

“Our carpark is in the basement of the condo.

“In 2014, we had some cracks on the walls but an inspection by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) showed that everything was fine.

“Now we are worried that if this land is cleared, we may have soil movement affecting our condo,” said Lee.

Area councillor Suriase Gengiah said according to MBPJ, there was a plan to build a connecting road from Jalan PJU 8 to Jalan PJU 3 in Kota Damansara.

He said a permit had been issued for soil investigation work.

However, he added that he planned to make a site visit soon to check on the issue.

Damansara MP Gobind Singh Deo when contacted said he had requested for MBPJ to provide a report on the land clearing issue.
