772 workers involved in special ops to monitor, collect waste during Raya

TO ensure there is no excessive accumulation of waste during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, SWM Environment Sdn Bhd will be monitoring 78 centralised rubbish bins in Melaka.

SWM Environment corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said solid waste generation was expected to increase this festive season.

“Therefore, monitoring and collection will be concentrated at each centralised bin locations identified accordingly by the operating branch.

“This special operation will take place until April 13 and involve 772 workers and 132 trucks,” he said at a press conference in conjunction with a special briefing and SWM Environment’s breaking of fast event in Melaka Raya, as reported by Bernama.

SWM Environment also presented duit raya to 20 orphans from Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) JAIM Merlimau Pasir at the event.

Norlisam said the operation included locations under the Historic Melaka City Council, Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council, Alor Gajah Municipal Council and Jasin Municipal Council.

Besides the centralised garbage collection, he said SWM Environment would also focus on scheduled domestic and bulk waste operations, public market operations as well as cleaning the city centre, beaches and public places.

“The public is advised not to block the passage of vehicles and people are encouraged to separate food waste and items that can be recycled,” he said.
