For Kpl Nurnasiha Shaharudin, the decision to participate in Hero Perak KP 2024 endurance test competition was her way of challenging herself to see how she would fare in an event often associated with men.

The 35-year-old, who is from Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD) office, also admitted that the involvement of women in male-dominated extreme activities was not uncommon because women were just as capable.

Kpl Nurnasiha, who hails from Temerloh in Pahang, said she spent over a month training with 14 colleagues from the IPD to ensure she was in peak form, both mentally and physically.

“I’d be lying if I said it was easy, but I was determined to take part in this test thanks to the support and encouragement from my teammates.

“We underwent various forms of rigorous training, such as running and shooting, to prepare ourselves for the challenges in the test,” she told Bernama when met at the Ulu Kinta General Operations Force Shooting Range.

Kpl Nurnasiha also expressed her appreciation to Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri for coming up with the competition, which she described as an effort to ensure that every police officer stayed fit.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Major Mohamad Zabidi Awang, the oldest participant at 58, said he was not deterred from competing despite knowing that most of the participants were younger.

The father of four from Bukit Mertajam, Penang, said it was also his way of boosting morale and instilling an interest among police officers, especially the youth, to take part in extreme activities.

“If a veteran like me can complete all disciplines (running and shooting) in this test, what is there to stop other young police officers from giving it a try?”

Asked for advice on maintaining health and fitness, Sjn Mejar Zabidi, representing Ipoh IPD, said there were no secrets except to focus on nutrition and maintain a positive mindset.

The inaugural competition, the brainchild of Comm Mohd Yusri, saw Taiping IPD crowned as overall champions, with Perak State Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) coming in second and Pengkalan Hulu IPD third.

A total of 240 police personnel from the state and 14 district police headquarters took part in the competition, which involved a 6.6km run and shooting events.
