Sibu mission school presents inaugural award to three alumni for their leadership and contributions
THREE former students of Sacred Heart Secondary School (SHS) have been recognised for their contributions to their alma mater.
Tan Sri Clement Hii Chii Kok, Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming and Dr Gregory Hii Sui Cheng were presented with the inaugural Golden Knight Award from Sacred Heart School Old Students Association (Shosa) at their annual reunion dinner.
Shosa lauded them for their leadership, perseverance and generosity to the mission school in Sibu, Sarawak.
Lee Ming and Sui Cheng were lauded for being part of Sacred Heart School redevelopment committee, as chairman and secretary respectively, upon the passing of another SHS legend, Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew in 2010.
“His sudden passing left a void. Lesser men would have buckled just by the thought of the immense work that laid ahead.
“Yet both Lee Ming and Dr Sui Cheng, from Class of 1966, valiantly stepped up and completed all items on the school’s wishlist,” read the citation.
This year marked the 20th anniversary of the completion of the school’s first major transformation in 2004.
Chii Kok, from Class of 1975, was celebrated by Shosa for his dedication in inspiring students and teachers over the last 20 years.
Since 2002, he has provided all the prizes and cash incentives for the annual awards ceremony and attended it every year.
The citation stated that Chii Kok also gave readily whenever the school was hard-pressed to pay for some of its needs.
In April 2023, when SHS was hit by a freak storm, he was among the first to lend a helping hand.
The school estimated that Chii Kok has given more than RM2mil to date, to help his alma mater.
The three men have often been described as the foundation upon which SHS has built itself for the last 20 years.
Presenting the awards on behalf of Shosa were its president Yong King Sung, immediate past president Hii Chang Kee and past president Robert Lau Hui Yew.
