THE operator of premises housing heavy machinery which is illegally occupying government land in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, has until May 25 to vacate.
The premises is located at the roundabout between Jalan Udang Kepai and Jalan Mergastua.
A Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) letter dated March 27 obtained by StarMetro said that the local authority urgently needed to use the site.
It stated that action would be taken upon deadline expiry and DBKL would bill the operator for any costs involved.
“Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh will not be responsible for any property damage sustained during the operation,” the statement added.
The letter also said a similar notice was issued on Jan 12 but the operator had failed to comply.
It, however, did not specify what DBKL intended to use the site for.
The addressees included Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s aide Datuk Azman Abidin and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Land and Mines Office (PTGWP) director Hisham Zulkifli.
The issue came to light following StarMetro’s report on Jan 26 highlighting complaints by Taman Petaling residents who were upset because the premises operated into the wee hours daily, disturbing the peace.
The residents also said many lorries were parked outside during the day, creating blindspots at the roundabout and endangering motorists.
There were also concerns that used engine oil and other waste from the premises were being discarded into a nearby river.
Local activist Yee Poh Ping, who made the complaint, urged DBKL to avoid further delays.
“We need firm action to ensure the well-being of residents,” he said.
