More than 300 underprivileged children were treated by Sunway Group to a party graced by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin at Sunway Resort Hotel.

The “Sunway for Good Raya Cheer 2024” celebration marked the end of the group’s month-long nationwide “Sinar Ramadan” corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Held in partnership with the Selangor Youth Community (SAY), this celebration saw children from orphanages Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Bimbingan At-Taqwa, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ehsan As-Shakur, Pusat Jagaan Cahaya Kasih Bestari, Rumah Raudhatul Al-Faeez and other activity centres for low-income families being treated to a buffet spread.

The children also enjoyed fun activities making friendship bracelets, wau (traditional kites) and Raya packets amid performances by SAY’s professional dancers and singers.

Sunway Group deputy chairman Tan Sri Razman M. Hashim spoke about the company’s steady commitment to helping the underserved.

“As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are reminded of our responsibility to continue supporting and uplifting those around us in the years ahead,” he said.

Adding to the significance of the event, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin took a personal interest in the children’s activities, engaging with them and participating in the fun.

The children also received duit raya, vitamin C supplements, chocolates, towels, eco-friendly farm kits and towels sponsored by Sunway Theme Parks, Sunway Resort Hotel, Sunway Malls, and Sunway XFarms.

To pull off this CSR initiative that benefitted more than 4,000 people nationwide, the group was supported by long-term partners namely Malaysian AIDS Foundation, Yayasan Raja Zarith Sofiah Negeri Johor, SAY, Malaysian Red Crescent Society and Yayasan Kebajikan Negara.

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations this year, Sunway will ramp up its CSR initiatives.

In July, the “Sunway – RapidKL Good Run 2024” will aim to welcome more than 10,000 runners from the 5km, 10km, 21.1km categories in a fundraising event to aid five charity homes.

Sunway is also pledging to pack over 500,000 meals at its annual Meal Pack-a-thon drive in September for underprivileged communities in Malaysia and abroad.

These meals will add to Sunway’s overall goal to provide two million free meals by 2024 and alleviate food security concerns among Orang Asli communities, orphanages, senior living homes, and B40 communities.

Since its inception in 2017, the Sunway for Good initiative has touched more than half a million lives via three key areas – education, healthcare, and community enrichment.

It aims to impact the lives of millions more.
