A TWENTY-SIX year wait comes to an end for 245 families in Bestari Jaya, as each will receive a unit under the Bestari Jaya People’s Housing Project (PPR).
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said that the Housing and Local Government Ministry and the state government had reached an agreement on the proposal for the development of the Bestari Jaya PPR with an allocation of RM75mil.
“The PPR project involves a collaboration with Berjaya Corporation Bhd, which has contributed 8ha of land at Lot 25, Ladang Sungai Tinggi, Mukim Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor to the Housing and Local Government Ministry,” he said.
Its purpose is to facilitate the relocation of 245 families of rubber estate settlers who worked in five estates, namely Ladang Mary, Ladang Nigel Garder, Ladang Bukit Tagar, Ladang Sungai Tinggi and Ladang Minyak.
Nga said to expedite the process, subject to ministerial approval, Prima Corporation will be appointed as the implementing agency to ensure that the housing project is completed within 24 months, with an expected completion date of 2026.
“The houses will be 20x60 feet with 750 to 800 square feet of space, featuring three rooms, two bathrooms,” he said, adding that development phases will be implemented.
Previously, the media reported that residents from the five estates within the Kuala Kubu Baharu state constituency had claimed to be fed up with being deceived repeatedly, as houses for the 245 families had yet to be built.
As a result, residents set a condition that any candidate seeking their support in the upcoming May 11 by-election must sign a statutory declaration to fulfil all promises made.
