An education and therapy centre for children with cognitive and sensory impairments brought people together to “Walk for Autism”.

The event by Taarana School was aimed at fostering greater support for individuals with autism and other forms of neurodivergence.

The school was established under the aegis of Raise Yourself To Help Mankind (Rythm) Foundation, the social impact arm of QI Group.

The group’s employees, senior executives and members of the board of directors joined the school’s students, their families and guests at the event held at Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) Sports Complex in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

“Walk for Autism aimed to do more than raise awareness.

“We sought to tangibly demonstrate our dedication to inclusivity and unwavering support for individuals on the autism spectrum,” said Rythm Foundation head Santhi Periasamy.

“This event was a vivid testament to our commitment to nurturing a community founded on empathy, understanding and acceptance – values we endeavour to cultivate and uphold,” she added.

Siti Fatimah, a parent of a Taarana student, emphasised how the event extended beyond participation.

“It is not just about the walk itself; it is about building a community where everyone feels included and valued.

“Initiatives like these go a long way in shaping a more supportive society for our children and future generations.”

The first 50 participants to complete the 1.5km walk received medals, while participants also took home e-certificates to remember their day.

QI Group general manager Kuna Senathirajah, human resources and administration director Boey Kho, marketing and sales director Pathman Senathirajah, Taarana’s principal Dr Sunitha Sivakumaran and several senior executives presented the medals.

The event also featured booth activities ranging from games to information on medical and therapy services as well as skills training in line with the event’s goal to make a lasting and all-round impact on autism awareness.
