A MITIGATION project costing over RM5mil is underway to address flooding issues in several areas in Puchong, says Selangor investment, trade, and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han.
The project, which covers four key locations, is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Ng said the Selangor government had brought together all stakeholders and relevant authorities to ensure the flood problem would be resolved.
“Areas undergoing upgrades include in front of IOI Mall Puchong (next to the Damansara-Puchong Highway or LDP), Bandar Puteri, Batu 14 and Town Park,” he said at a press conference at Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Shah Alam.
Also present were several stakeholders, including Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), developers, transit operator Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat Bhd, which owns several highway concessionaires including Lingkaran Trans Kota Holdings Bhd (Litrak).
“We will have a new connecting drain outlet from IOI Business Park leading to a retention pond,” said Ng.
“About 50% of the work is completed, and the rest will be finished by year-end.
“Once the connecting drain is completed, Prasarana will then upgrade the drain in front of the mall to increase water-carrying capacity.
“Prasarana will build one large culvert to hold more flood water,” he said.
Ng said the project faced several constraints. As the LRT line runs in front of IOI mall, works can only take place between 1am and 5am.
“We cannot block any part of the LDP as it is a busy road.
“No construction work can be done while the LRT is operating,” he said.
According to Ng, the works outside IOI mall are funded by the developer, Litrak and MBSJ at a cost of about RM4.7mil.
The second location to be upgraded is at Bandar Puteri.
MBSJ and several developers plan to conduct a site visit to identify the cause of the flooding there before upgrading the monsoon drains.
At Puchong Indah, the flooding originates upstream, so the developer had agreed to deepen the Town Park lake, said Ng.
As for Batu 14, he said the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) had committed to cleaning up a retention pond next month.
Following this, MBSJ will build a culvert at a cost of RM300,000 to ensure better rainwater flow in the area.
