ADDRESSING traffic congestion is one of the main objectives of the Greater Johor Baru (JB) Smart City Masterplan.
Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) would work with Johor Public Transport Corporation (PAJ) to create a traffic plan for public transportation, its mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman said.
“We want to establish a study so that we can plan out the traffic flow for Greater JB, including Kulai,” he said.
“To do this, MBJB will be partnering with PAJ to come out with a central traffic master plan to help address congestion issues.”
He added that this plan would be standardised with other local councils.
“It will be similar to how the Johor Fast Lane has been streamlined at all local councils.
“We will engage with Town and Country Planning Department (PLANMalaysia) for it to lead and integrate all of this.”
Mohd Noorazam also said that MBJB had installed 300 AI-powered closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the city.
“The CCTVs have been integrated with 12 AI features and will be linked with our command centre, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year.”
Mayor Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) command centre development had been completed.
“We are currently installing all the necessary equipment and expect the centre to be fully operational by the end of this year.
“We have also installed about 40% of our AI CCTV from our target of 350 units,” he said.
“These CCTVs have been placed at main roads and public areas all over Pasir Gudang,” he said.
Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) president Mohd Fahmi Salam said the council would start installing 300 AI CCTVs.
“This is based on our discussion with the other mayors under the Greater JB area.
“As of May 20, we have installed 25 CCTVs,” he said.
“We are currently working on our smart traffic light system, where we have 32 traffic light intersections that we plan to improve this year.
“We have just completed our plan for smart parking apps and we expect it to be developed this year.”
He added that MPKu would wait for approval from MBJB, MBPG and Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) to synchronise the command centre between the four local councils.
“Each local council has its own smart city framework that it needs to follow based on the PLANMalaysia benchmark.
“We hope to be able to streamline all of this so that we can improve connectivity and transportation in the city as well as public safety and security.”
