AEON Credit Service (M) Bhd, in collaboration with Aeon Co (M) Bhd and the Malaysian Aeon Foundation, has donated RM500,000 to the victims of the 7.6-magnitude earthquake that struck Suzu on the Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, on Jan 1, 2024.

A mock cheque was presented to Japan’s ambassador to Malaysia, Takahashi Katsuhiko, at a ceremony at the Japanese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

The contribution comprised RM175,000 each from Aeon Credit and Aeon Co and funds that were collected by the foundation during its public donation drive in January, amounting to RM150,000.

Aeon Credit chairman Ng Eng Kiat, Malaysian Aeon Foundation president Datuk Iskandar Sarudin, Aeon Co managing director Naoya Okada, Aeon Credit chief corporate officer Lee Kit Seong and several foundation committee members were at the cheque presentation ceremony.

Ng said: “Our ongoing commitment to support people in need, both locally and internationally, is rooted in Aeon Credit’s commitment to community welfare.

“And today, as the Aeon Group of Companies in Malaysia, we stand together in pursuit of these objectives.

“Over the years, the foundation has donated more than RM20mil, extending a helping hand to those in need of the basics like education, shelter and medical support.

“This sustained effort enables individuals to rediscover the simple joys of everyday life,” Ng said.

“And it repreents Aeon’s commitment to creating a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those affected by adversity.”
