THE flagship SmileBay Signature Advanced Implant Centre has opened its doors at Weld Quay in Penang to provide world-class holistic and advanced dental care.

SmileBay Dental Group founder Dr Yong Peng San said the new clinic site was chosen because it symbolised Penang’s heritage and the group’s vision to showcase modern dentistry.

“Weld Quay was once a busy port in Penang in the late 19th century, symbolising connection and progress.

“It was a gateway to the world and is a perfect symbol for our new centre which serves to

provide advanced, world-class dental care,” he said.

Dr Yong, who is also the group’s managing director and chief clinician, said the centre’s proximity to Port Swettenham International Cruise Terminal could provide convenient emergency care, especially to cruise ship passengers.

“Our expertise and state-of-the-art technologies allow us to perform single-visit root canal treatments followed by crowning, all within a short span of three to four hours,” he said.

He also said SmileBay had built a reputation as a premier destination for dental tourism.

The new clinic is the eighth branch of SmileBay and currently serves patients from near and far, including Indonesia, Australia, United Kingdom, the United States and European countries.

Dr Yong said one of the highlights at the new centre was the full-mouth implant surgery.

“This is known as the AOX implant surgery, where we use four to six implants to support a full arch of replacement teeth.

“The surgery time is reduced and your replacement teeth are crafted as a single, customised bridge.

“This is most beneficial to people with terminally ill teeth or those wearing complete dentures, and are looking to upgrade their dental well-being and quality of life,” he elaborated.

Other treatments offered at the centre besides dental implants are crowns and bridges, fillings, periodontal treatments, and bone and soft tissue grafting.

SmileBay Signature also

boasts of international partnerships with centres such as the T32 Dental Group in Singapore and the Dental Implant

and Maxillofacial Centre in

Hong Kong.

“These collaborations promote knowledge exchange and technological upgrades, ensuring that we stay at the forefront of dental innovations,” said Dr Yong.

He explained that apart from regular training, specialised upskilling in root canal treatment, full mouth rehabilitation, implant surgery, smile makeovers, laser dentistry, and same-day crown technology were also conducted for SmileBay staff.

“To stay established in the industry, we have also invested in the latest dental technologies such as 3D printing for dental prosthetics, digital intra-oral scanners and digital X-rays,” he added.

SmileBay’s highly-skilled staff, said Dr Yong, were paramount to the group’s success.

Having more clinics, he said, was another way for the group to conduct community outreach activities.

Penang social development, welfare and non-Islamic religious affairs committee chairman Lim Siew Khim launched the new SmileBay centre.

Also present were Penang youth, sports and health committee chairman Daniel Gooi, T32 Dental Group and Dontia Alliance founder and chief executive officer Dr Wong Keng Mun, and Dental Implant and Maxillofacial Centre founder and managing director Dr James Chow.

In her speech, Lim commended SmileBay for the opening of the state-of-the-art facility, which represented the group’s dedication to dental excellence.

Later, Lim and Gooi witnessed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between Dr Yong and Dr Wong.

There was also a lion dance held in conjunction with the centre’s opening.
