SABAH has expressed its appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for postponing targeted diesel subsidies in the state.

“This decision reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to preserving the welfare of our people, recognising the high reliance on diesel-powered four-wheel drives in many Sabahan households,” said state Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

He was speaking at the launch of Shell Malaysia’s new and improved FuelSave Diesel at Plaza Shell in Kota Kinabalu.

On May 21, Anwar said the Cabinet had agreed to rationalise diesel subsidies, adding this would begin with targeted diesel subsidies in the peninsula first, and later for Sabah and Sarawak.

He said almost all families in Sabah and Sarawak use diesel for transportation every day.

Masidi commended Shell Malaysia for its proactive approach in collaborating with the Sabah government.

He said such partnerships were vital in ensuring technological advancements were effectively integrated into the local context in Sabah to meet the unique needs of its communities.

Masidi added that he and Shell Malaysia chairman Siti Hurrairah Sulaiman witnessed the signing ceremony between the Sabah government via SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd (SMJE) and Shell International Eastern Trading Company, a business owned by Shell Eastern Trading Pte Ltd.

He said the signing was for the extension of the ongoing sales and purchase agreement (SPA) for the lifting of crude oil cargo at the Labuan Crude Oil Terminal (LCOT).

“The launch event at Plaza Shell is a testament that Shell continues to have a strong presence in Sabah,” Masidi added.

“I hope to see Shell and SMJE strengthening their relationship further in the years to come,” he said.

Earlier, Siti Hurrairah said Shell Malaysia wanted to announce this new product in Sabah as the company recognised and valued the partnership of the Sabah government, particularly with its support and recognition of the challenges that the oil and gas industry had faced last year.

Shell Mobility Malaysia general manager Seow Lee Ming said the new and improved Shell FuelSave Diesel offers among others, consumers up to 19km longer per tank.

“It deep cleans like never before, removing up to 65% of harmful engine deposits and protecting against future build-up,” she said.
