KLANG residents can still submit their objections on the proposed assessment rate hike to the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) until July 16.
Mayor Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan said MBDK encouraged residents to relay their views which can be submitted at MBDK’s Auditorium Raja Ismail from Monday to Friday between 9am to 4.30pm or by emailing jpph@mbdk.gov.my
She said the new assessment rate hike would not exceed 25%.
“MBDK’s last assessment review was conducted in 1993. The cost of providing basic services like cutting grass, cleaning drains and collecting domestic waste has increased three-fold,” she said after the MBDK full board meeting.
Noraini said from May 30 until yesterday, MBDK received 692 objections from property owners about the new assessment rate hike, which takes effect in January 2025.
Currently, there are 268,445 property owners in Klang city, she added.
MBDK had also sent out notices on the new rates to property owners earlier this month.
“Once the time frame for objections are closed, we will hold a hearing session in August,” she added.
Zone N49B councillor Saribanon Saibon said people agreed that an assessment hike was due after three decades, but wanted efficient and quality services from the city council.
“I urge residents who want to give constructive feedback on the assessment hike to write their objections and suggestions in a form that can be obtained from the city council,” she said.
Zone N48C councillor Nyaneswaran Subramaniam said if residents did not agree with the assessment rate hike, they must make the effort to voice out their views.
“Most residents in the Sentosa constituency are agreeable to a reasonable assessment rate hike but they want improved flash flood mitigation and drainage network as well cleanliness before the rate hike is implemented,” he added.
