CHARITY first, badminton second, was probably in the minds of six badminton players who attended the Badminton for Charity 2024 tournament.
The badminton stars past and present who came to support the event were Datuk Foo Kok Keong, Ong Ewe Hock, James Chua, Soo Teck Chi, Yap Cheng Wen and Cheam June Wei.
The tournament in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, was organised by badminton equipment manufacturer MMOA in conjunction with the brand’s 50th anniversary.
MMOA Malaysia was founded by Angeline Ngoi and Zes Cheah in 2019, who brought in the Taiwanese brand that makes a range of badminton equipment from racquets, sportswear and shuttlecocks to shoes and other accessories.
Ngoi said 38 corporate sponsors raised RM68,888 on tournament day.
The amount later rose to RM100,500 and all of it was donated to Malaysia Ban Foo Buddhist Organisation to build its monastery in Ulu Tiram, Johor.
