Community leaders and village chiefs (ketua masyarakat dan ketua kaum or KMKK) have been told to stay apolitical.

Sibu District Officer Khalid Andong said KMKK should focus on their duties and remain neutral.

“Do not practise favouritism just because some did not support your appointment as KMKK,” he said at a ceremony presenting appointment letters to KMKK in Dudong constituency.

“Implement laws and regulations fairly.”

He congratulated all appointed KMKK and expressed hope that they would fulfil their responsibilities accordingly.

A total of 99 KMKK were appointed to cover three categories, comprising kapitans, longhouse chiefs and village chiefs.

Also present was Agatha Ting, representative of Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister and Dudong Assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

The Sibu Resident Office was represented by Haider Kowel Bete.

Datuk Teo Boon Siew represented Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
