ABOUT 80 families will benefit from “Gerobok Rezeki MBSA”, a community food bank at Masjid Baitul Mahabbah in Section 27, Shah Alam, Selangor.

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the food bank would provide the hardcore poor with daily necessities such as rice, cooking oil, eggs, condensed milk, flour, sugar and salt.

He said this after launching “Gerobok Rezeki MBSA”, previously known as “Bakul Rezeki”, in a simple ceremony.

“This food bank is also open to non-Muslims,” said Mohd Fauzi.

“They can come in, fill up a form and take what they need,” he added.

MBSA has allotted an additional RM3,000 for the food bank on top of its initial RM5,000 contribution.

“We aim to ensure that no one is left out,” added Mohd Fauzi.

“This programme involves teamwork with the mosque’s committee and representatives from other mosques in nearby neighbourhoods.”

He encouraged beneficiaries to only take what they needed to reduce food wastage and not deprive others who were also in need.

“We will have our own system to monitor the food collected,” he said.

The mayor added MBSA was also collaborating with the mosque to implement eco-friendly systems such as a rain harvesting and solar panels to generate electricity.

Deputy mayor Madiyan Baweh also attended the ceremony.
