Slope works in Bangsar to finish next month with planting of trees

THE ongoing slope enhancement project in the vicinity of Jalan Maarof, Bangsar, by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is expected to be completed by early August.

DBKL's corporate planning department said, in a statement dated July 4, that the rockfall netting installation has been completed and the project will conclude with hydromulching and hydroseeding works along the slope.

The statement was in response to a StarMetro report, "Clarity sought on Bangsar slope works by DBKL" on July 2.

Residents had called on DBKL to erect a signboard at the construction site, which is located on an inner lane of Jalan Senuduk.

They also said machinery had obstructed the road, making it narrow and prone to accidents.

DBKL said works to clean bushes, cut trees and instal rockfall netting had started in March.

This came after a site visit in November last year found rocks falling from the slope.

Bushes behind the houses in Jalan Menerung 2, adjacent to Jalan Senuduk, were also found to be unkempt.

As the DBKL-appointed contractor finished the cleaning works, several areas along the slope were found to be affected by soil erosion.

Several trees were also spotted leaning towards the road, posing a danger to the public.

Hence, DBKL also instructed the contractor to remove the trees.

The statement also clarified that representatives from Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil's office visited the site on April 30 together with nearby residents for a briefing on the project.

Following the visit, Fahmi's office had asked DBKL to widen the scope of the works to include the replanting of trees along the slope.
