THE Rumah Mesra Rakyat 2.0 (RMR 2.0), introduced by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) in February has received encouraging response from across the country.
SPNB chairman Datuk Husam Musa said RMR 2.0 was the choice of many, as applicants do not have to wait long to own their dream home if they meet the criteria.
“If the applicant has the capital or has come to an agreement with his family to pay part of the cost of building a house of RM55,000, then he can secure a property within 45 days because the remaining cost of RM20,000 will be borne by the government in the form of a subsidy,” he said as reported by Bernama.
Husam said this after launching the Urban Community Sustainability Programme (PKKB) and One Green One Community corporate social responsibility (CSR) Programme at the Kerinchi People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Kampung Kerinchi, Kuala Lumpur.
Also present was SPNB acting chief executive Zahanuddin Kamarudin.
Husam said among the states showing keen interest in the RMR 2.0 project were Kelantan, Terengganu and Johor.
The focus would soon shift to attracting more applicants from Sabah and Sarawak, he added.
As for RMR 1.0, he said SPNB received almost 190,000 applications nationwide as of April but only approved a construction quota of 3,500 units for this year, to complement the 3,100 unit quota under the RMR 2.0 project.
Husam said PKKB was an initiative of SPNB and the Housing and Local Government Ministry in raising awareness on the importance of reducing global warming.
He said hydroponic system greenhouses, recycling stations and educating the community about saving electricity and water, as well as implementing more waste management were among steps taken.
The hydroponic system is also efficient in providing good yield, in a short period of time, towards increasing the community’s income source.
