Group’s new leaders start term with goodwill

THE RAISING of funds in support of disadvantaged folk created a good start to the new term of the Selangor and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Kin Cho Hong.

The association, which was set up over a century ago, held its 88th Term of Committee Members’ Inauguration Night at the Hee Lai Tong Restaurant, Shaw Parade in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur.

Lawyer and community leader Datuk Dr Lye Wing Voi was sworn in as the new chairman for a three-year term.

Chosen to hold the deputy chairman position was entrepreneur Tan Chuan Yong.

The posts of secretary-general and treasurer were passed on to Lee Wai Meng and Tee Seng Kong, respectively.

Vice-chairman duties were entrusted to a team comprising Lum Chai Ong, Liew Choy Sing and Tan Yen Sind.

The inauguration was witnessed by Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai, Teratai assemblyman Yew Jia Haur, Federal Malaysia Chinese Guilds Association president Datuk Lum Kim Soong, and United Malaysia Contractors Association president Datuk Wong Tong Chun.

To start off the 88th term, the association held an impromptu fundraiser by collecting RM21,000 to support the Steps of Hope Charity 1km and 5km Fun Walk and Run that was later held at Semenyih Eco Venture Resort in Selangor.

The walk and run event was organised by the Lions Club of Mid Valley Kuala Lumpur.

It was supported by Persatuan Kebajikan Chui Sui Malaysia and the Business Networking Club Malaysia.

Funds raised from the event were in aid of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Orang Tua Rahmat, Lovely Disabled Home Recycle Centre, Lions Eye Clinic and Lions Education Foundation.

Also present at the event were Selangor Turf Club chairman Tan Sri Richard Cham and his wife Puan Sri Louise Cham, Malaysia Chinese Assembly Hall president Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai, Master Builders Association Malaysia president Oliver Wee and Persekutuan Kelab Sosial Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur president Datuk Seri Niven Chua.

The night also saw 20 applicants requesting membership in the association.

Among them were United Malaysia Contractors Association (UMCA) advisor Foo Chek Lee, Unique Fire Holding Bhd executive director Datuk Marcus Liew and Semenyih Eco Venture Resort chief executive officer Datuk Stanley Chew.
