NEWLY appointed Seberang Perai mayor Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid has planned a back-to-basics approach to strengthen the city’s governance.

The former council secretary said he had outlined three key aspects which he would emphasise for Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).

“These aspects are urban hygiene, enforcement and finance,” he said after being sworn in at the city council’s headquarters in Bandar Perda.

Baderul said MBSP would also increase its competitiveness and attract more investments.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present at the ceremony, congratulated Baderul on his appointment.

“Having served in the council for 33 years since 1991, and having headed its Engineering Department, Baderul’s extensive experience, knowledge, expertise, and dedication are sufficient to lead the city council and uphold his responsibilities.

“However, MBSP, being the largest in the country and its sizeable population, is challenging to manage,” he said.

“A lot needs to be done with the limited financial resources,” he said.

Chow added that the future of Penang lay in Seberang Perai and he hoped MBSP would continue to deliver excellent services to its residents.

Baderul succeeds Datuk Azhar Arshad who had served as Seberang Perai mayor since 2022.

Azhar was appointed as the State Secretary of Melaka effective June 24.

Also present were State Secretary Datuk Rosli Isa, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid as well as other state leaders.
