The Mid-Rajang Regional Development Agency (Mirrda) in Sarawak is taking a collaborative approach to development by focusing on workshops and community input.
Kanowit MP Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang, who is also Mirrda Steering Committee chairman, said multiple workshops would be held to ensure the right projects were implemented.
He said these workshops involved not only Mirrda but also individual assemblymen who proposed projects for their constituencies.
He said while no projects had been finalised yet, existing government initiatives could be adopted for quicker implementation.
Mirrda builds upon previous development efforts, he said adding that from March to May last year, each state constituency carried out mini labs to identify projects.
These efforts yielded 302 proposals across infrastructure, agriculture, social development, and other sectors with a total value of RM8.3bil, he added.
The Sarawak government’s allocation of RM1.5bil for Mirrda was seen as a critical step to accelerate socio-economic development in ensuring prosperity, inclusivity, and sustainability for rural communities in Sibu, Mukah, and Bintulu, said Aaron.
Mirrda’s reach extends across Kanowit, Selangau, Tatau, parts of Sibu and Mukah, encompassing the state constituencies of Ngemah, Machan, Tamin, Kakus, and the parliamentary constituencies of Kanowit and Selangau.
This vast area, covering 11,458 sq km, is poised for significant progress, he added.
Mirrda, he said, aimed at uplifting the socio-economy of the people in the region in line with the Sarawak Post-Covid 19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
He said Mirrda’s strategic goals included increasing job opportunities by 30%, and increasing household income from the current RM3,000 to RM6,000. — By ANDY CHUA
