The rejuvenated restaurant boasts not just aesthetic improvements but also a revamped menu crafted by its Japanese trained chef de cuisine Mike Yip.

Yip has elevated Fu-rin’s offerings with an innovative omakase menu, a unique addition that distinguishes it from other hotel-based Japanese restaurants.

“I decided to add omakase to our menu because it offers a unique and personalised dining experience.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, omakase became a trend in Malaysia as people sought more intimate and customised dining experiences.

“I wanted to bring this trend to Fu-rin, providing our guests with something special that they can’t find at other hotel restaurants,” he said.

Omakase, a Japanese phrase meaning “I’ll leave it up to you”, is a culinary experience where the chef curates a bespoke menu, tailored daily based on the freshest ingredients available.

Fu-rin’s commitment to authenticity is evident in its seafood selection, flown in weekly from Japan.

The restaurant’s fresh sashimi platter is a highlight, featuring generous cuts of maguro (tuna), salmon and butter fish.

The thickness of these cuts allow diners to truly savour the exquisite textures and flavours of the fish.

Each bite of the tuna melts in the mouth; the salmon offers a rich, buttery taste, and the butterfish provides a delicate, smooth finish.

Yip’s meticulous preparation of sushi – salmon, tuna, butterfish, tamago and inari – is a testament to his dedication and expertise.

Every piece is crafted with precision, balancing the flavours perfectly and showcasing the quality of the seafood.

For those who prefer their food cooked, Fu-rin offers a variety of options.

The teppanyaki, a mainstay since the restaurant’s inception, remains a speciality.

This interactive dining experience allows guests to watch as chefs skilfully prepare their meals on a hot iron griddle.

The teppanyaki menu includes a variety of premium ingredients such as Australian beef, tiger prawns, salmon, cod and scallops.

The menu also features A5 Wagyu beef in its top-tier RM688 package, ensuring a luxurious dining experience.

The marbling and tenderness of the A5 Wagyu provide a melt-in-the-mouth delight.

Each teppanyaki course begins with a comforting bowl of miso soup, setting the stage for the culinary delights to follow.

Fu-rin’s omakase menu is available in three price tiers: RM288, RM488 and RM688.

The RM488 and RM688 omakase options also include a selection of expertly grilled dishes, offering a comprehensive taste of Japanese culinary artistry.

Similarly, the teppanyaki menu is priced at RM288, RM488 and RM688, offering a curated course for a complete dining experience, with the RM688 teppanyaki set also including the A5 Wagyu.

For those looking to indulge in Fu-rin’s exquisite sushi without breaking the bank, the restaurant now offers a Japanese buffet every Sunday, starting from July 14.

Priced at RM98 per person, this buffet provides a fantastic opportunity to savour a variety of fresh and delicious seafood.

The buffet includes sashimi, sushi, teppanyaki, seafood on ice with tiger prawns and oyster, tempura and a selection of desserts.

This is an excellent option for those who want to enjoy high-quality Japanese food at a more affordable price point.

For diners who desire the full experience of the chef crafting their meal before their eyes, the omakase and teppanyaki options are ideal.

Fu-rin is a pork-free restaurant that serves alcoholic beverages such as sake and wine; these are not included in the omakase and teppanyaki meals.

Guest can enjoy these spirits as optional add-ons.
