Rajang Esplanade in Sibu, Sarawak, will soon see an upgrade of its facilities.

This will enable more activities to be organised at this recreational space that was built in 1988.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the upgrades costing RM175,000 would be financed via the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).

He noted that the park had become a focal point for youth-centred activities, with programmes such as The Stage 5.0.

Held in June, the event was a platform for youths from Sibu, Kuching and Miri to showcase their talents.

“I hope that, after the upgrading of this park, we can have more stalls set up.

“With better facilities, we can organise more youth activities.

“By doing so, we can transform the almost forgotten Rajang Esplanade into a popular place for youth gatherings,” he added.

As for the type of facilities to be upgraded, Chieng said he would discuss this with Sibu Municipal Council because Rajang Esplanade was under its jurisdiction.

“If the allocation we set aside is not enough, we will proceed with phase 2 of the upgrading work and set aside funds for next year,” he added.
