Ipoh trivia night to fund dementia awareness activities

A trivia night will be held in Ipoh, Perak, to raise funds for people with dementia.

Organising chairman Simon Lum said the event by Dementia Society Perak, Dementia Cafe of Ipoh and Santunan Kasih Perak will be held at Taman Cempaka Community Hall on July 27 at 7pm.

Lum said the aim was to raise about RM6,000, to hold future awareness programmes about persons with dementia.

“It is a conservative target as this is our first major event.

“The funds will be used to hold upcoming awareness programmes such as ‘Beca Ride for Persons with Dementia’ and movie matinees for senior folk in the city,” he said.

“We will show classics like Tan Sri P. Ramlee movies as a journey through time for our elders.

“The event is focused on quizzes and our objectives are raising dementia awareness and social inclusivity,” he added.

Lum said the trivia event was open to the public, where 10 people could form a team.

“Participants will engage in a friendly trivia competition and stand a chance to win attractive prizes.

“Each table of 10 participants goes for RM150,” he said, adding that they could accommodate 300 participants.

“Trivia night is for all attendees to have an entertaining and fun evening, bonding with family, friends and the community while promoting dementia awareness.”

Lum said there would be five rounds of quizzes during the event, with the best-scoring table being named the winners.

He said each participant would be asked to put RM12 into a pot to play the quizzes.

“There will also be a ‘Reverse Trivia’ round whereby the organising committee will answer a question from a table in each round.

“Donations will be made either from the committee or the participants’ table, depending on who gets it right,” he said.

“Participants just need to bring their sense of humour and put their thinking caps on.

“Everyone is guaranteed to learn something new,” Lum added.
