FIVE members from Malaysia Ex-Police Association of Kuala Lumpur & Federal Territories paid a courtesy visit to Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa at Kuala Lumpur police headquarters.

The visit was to foster good relationships even after the officers’ retirement.

Retired police officer Datuk Basant Singh Sidhu said there had been many new developments over the years by the government to strengthen the image of the police and to work closely with the public.

Basant had briefed Comm Rusdi, who was appointed city police chief on April 1, on the assistance available to help members of the police force.

“This year, we hope to get in touch with many full-time police officers at the Kuala Lumpur police district level to rekindle good working relationships and invite all retirees to join our association.

“It includes those from the auxiliary police and the Police Volunteer Reserve Unit of Kuala Lumpur.

“We should be able to recruit more people from the existing 3,000 members in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

As a full member, he said, they could enjoy benefits such as health check-up rebates, corporate privileges, family benefits in terms of economic necessities, and assistance in welfare issues.

Basant said the association was talking to more corporate sponsors and organisations for assistance in terms of welfare and economic aid.

The visitors were then given a briefing by the Kuala Lumpur police chief on the force’s overall plans to enhance closer working ties with the public.

Comm Rusdi also advised on how former policemen and officers could contribute towards assisting the force in crime prevention.

Basant said the training they received as policemen enabled them to develop friendships and a brotherhood which has lasted until today.

He said for new policemen to gain respect from the public, they needed to have high regard for their uniform, abide by the law and serve the public with honour and dignity.

A special fruit basket was presented to Comm Rusdi as a mark of respect and thanks for his hospitality and time spent with the ex-police members.

The team received a souvenir plaque in return.

Also present during the meetting were Kuala Lumpur police headquarters management department head Senior Assistant Commissioner Samsor Maarof, Special Branch deputy head ACP Roslan Ahmad Junaidi and Criminal Investigation Department deputy head ACP Mohd Fauzi Hassan.
