PJ PALMS Sports Centre, owned by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), and its swimming pool is an asset that will continue to serve its purpose to the public, says Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon.
He said the swimming pool facilities will be retained and any speculation that it will be closed is untrue and regrettable.
“PJ Palms has a swimming pool and several shops and restaurants. MBPJ rented it to main contractor, Sepang Mekar Sdn Bhd, which sublet it to a swim centre, shops and restaurants,
“Despite the contract with the main contractor ending, the assets will remain as it is.
“A tender process has taken place to appoint a new main contractor to operate the place,
“There is no truth to talk that the swimming facility will be closed” he said.
He added that those who have enquires over the pool can visit MBPJ’s Evaluation and Asset Management department or call 03-7954 5986.
An online petition was circulated by a group to seek public support as there was talk that PJ Palms Sports Centre may be shuttered.
PJ Palms is located at Lorong Sultan in Section 52, Petaling Jaya, and was formerly where the Syabas sports club was located.
