AFTER 52 days without a mayor, Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has a new head.
Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim, 47, has been appointed Subang Jaya’s fourth mayor, effective July 22.
His appointment was announced in a Facebook post after Selangor State Secretary Datuk Haris Kasim handed over the appointment letter and mandate to Amirul Azizan during a simple ceremony at Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in Shah Alam.
He held a meeting with department heads at the city council immediately after his appointment.
Amirul Azizan was previously Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MDKL) president for four years starting July 2020.
He has been in government service for 21 years.
Before MDKL, he served as district officer at Gombak District and Land Office from July 2016 to March 2019.
He worked as the chief assistant secretary at the tax analysis division in Malaysia’s treasury in 2011 and the following year, at the Selangor treasury in the same position.
Amirul Azizan’s experience in the treasury is expected to help MBSJ during the proposed assessment tax hike which is due to take effect in January.
MBSJ’s previous mayor, Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim, served 13 months at the council before he was transferred to Shah Alam City Council as its mayor in June. — By EDWARD RAJENDRA
