A one-of-a-kind concert involving folk from the deaf community will be held in Ipoh, Perak, on Aug 4.

The “Dare to Dream Symphonic Fusion in Harmony” orchestral concert at Shen Jai High School will see 20 deaf individuals performing sign language in a segment accompanying live music.

Organising chairman Evonne Chen said the concert aimed to give the deaf community a platform to perform and boost

their confidence while creating public awareness of their musical abilities.

“This concert will provide a platform for these often neglected and marginalised members of the community to step forward.

“They will perform two out of nine songs during the concert,” she said at a press conference held at Ipoh Lions Centre.

Chen said the concert would also feature a group performance by a pianist and about 40 musicians playing on a piano app called “Walk Band”.

“We want to showcase a unique concert with innovative performances by our talents.

“We also hope that the concert can get recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records.”
