STUDENTS from Xiamen University Malaysia’s (XUM) School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) will soon begin internships at Seremban’s CMH Specialist Hospital and Mawar Medical Centre (MMC).

This will enable them to gain an understanding about the operations of private specialist hospitals.

The collaboration was made possible following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the hospitals and XUM.

Negri Sembilan Chinese Maternity Association (NSCMA) and MMC chairman Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock described the signing as a historic collaboration between traditional Chinese and Western medicine in Malaysia.

NSCMA also owns CMH Specialist Hospital, which is located in Seremban.

“We look forward to expanding our exchanges in various fields in the near future, with the aim of achieving a perfect integration of Chinese and Western medical systems.

“Both hospitals will provide interns with opportunities to understand the operations of other departments such as accounting and marketing.

“This will allow them to gain insights into specialist hospital management within the local healthcare landscape,” he said.

Lee added that the interns would be encouraged to interact with doctors and other medical staff as this would help foster innovation.

“Healthcare is a field full of challenges and opportunities,” he said.

“As society progresses, the demand for medical services is becoming increasingly diverse and personalised.

“Only through highly-professional medical teams can we meet the needs of the times.”

Both hospitals, shared Lee, had been developing their physical infrastructure and medical technology.

Lee said CMH Specialist Hospital had also started researching the setting up of a TCM Department.

“We believe that the integration of Chinese and Western medical technologies is a future trend.

“Establishing a TCM department will be a new milestone in Negri Sembilan’s healthcare sector.

“It offers a new direction for expanding our existing medical services.”

Lee said the MOU signing would not have been possible without the support from Negri Sembilan Chinese Physicians’ and Druggists’ Association.
