Housing and Local Government Ministry allocated RM335,260 to upgrade 10 roads in two villages in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, under a mini upgrade project.

Iskandar Puteri MP Liew Chin Tong said the two villages, Kampung Baru Skudai and Kampung Baru Kangkar Pulai, submitted requests last year which were approved under this year’s budget.

“For Kampung Baru Skudai, the allocation was RM140,000 for six roads. RM195,260 was granted for four roads in Kampung Baru Kangkar Pulai,” he said.

“The application was made by the village committees through our office.

“This is also in line with the Unity Government’s move to increase the allocation for upgrading projects at kampung baru (new villages) from the initial RM100,000 a year to RM200,000 a year.”

Liew said this after a site visit to Kampung Baru Kangkar Pulai, where the upgrades involved Jalan Pisang, Jalan Pisang Raja, Jalan Limau Manis and Jalan Limau Kupas.

In Kampung Baru Skudai, upgrades were carried out to Jalan Kerai and five village roads, namely Jalan 28-83A, Jalan 90B-85C, Jalan 116-92A, Jalan 45-35 and Jalan 21-27B.

“Before the upgrades, we received numerous complaints regarding potholes, especially from those who cycle in the village.

“We hope the upgrades will provide relief to road users in the two villages,” he said, adding that there were about 2,000 families in both villages.

Separately, Liew provided an update on the illegal waste dumping incident at Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Temon, Perling, which was reported by StarMetro on July 16.

“Our investigations revealed that the lorry had been dumping construction waste at the village,” he said.

“We have taken down the company’s details and lodged a report with the police and the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp).”

Liew, who is also Deputy Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister, said his office would be working closely with Johor government to ensure illegal dumping would not occur at other villages.

“Imagine if the waste were hazardous – what would happen to the community?

“Firm action should be taken against individuals and companies that dump waste irresponsibly,” he said.
