Bus shelter extension in Setapak by DBKL to benefit varsity students

Once completed, the bus shelter will be able to provide more students protection from the elements.

A roofed platform is being built as a bus shelter next to Aeon Big along Jalan Danau Saujana in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

The 54m platform will extend from the bus stop to a nearby mosque.

Former Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology Student Representative Council president Wong Yew Lee said as many as 100 students wait at the bus stop during peak periods, from 6.30am to 8am and at noon to take the bus.

“If the bus stop is full, they would be exposed to sun or rain.

“Those going for 8am classes would sometimes have to wait at the bus stop as early as 6.30am,” he said.

Wong, who has since graduated, said he had highlighted the problem to the relevant authorities during his tenure.

“We are glad that the roofed platform is now being built so that students will not be exposed to the harsh weather.”

Last Sept 22, StarMetro highlighted the students’ plight, especially when it rained, calling for an increase in bus frequency to meet demand.

Kuala Lumpur advisory board member Andre Lai said construction of the roofed platform started on July 17 and was being carried out by Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s contractors.

It is expected to be completed at the end of this month.

“Sometimes the queue reaches the parking lot of Aeon Big.

“The cost of the platform is less than RM100,000.

“I hope after the completion of the roofed platform, it will provide a more comfortable environment for passengers,” he said.
