SMK St Michael in Ipoh, Perak is holding its annual stage production today to raise funds for the school.

School principal Phoon Kean Loon said the showcase, called “Michaelians Got Talent”, was aimed at raising funds to enhance and maintain the school’s facilities and buildings.

Phoon said the school hoped to raise about RM100,000 from the show to be held at the school hall at 7.45pm.

“As this is a mission school that is partially aided, it is imperative that we also raise funds for the academic enhancement of our facilities and building maintenance. We do this once a year.

“It will help provide us with facilities befitting our status as one of the premier schools in Malaysia,” he said in a statement.

“These facilities included classrooms, science laboratories, a computer room and a storeroom for sports equipment.

“It will also allow us to continue providing opportunities to all young Michaelians, as together with the Parent-Teacher Association and other stakeholders, we strive to provide exemplary education opportunities for the children,” he added.

Apart from raising funds, Phoon said the stage production would also help with the children’s overall development.

He said there would be 24 contestants singing, dancing as well as playing instruments.

“The school has produced 65 plays and musicals since our first production in 1955.

“We encourage people to not only support our fundraiser but to also be present to support the children’s efforts and talents,” he added.
