THE Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association charity golf event raised RM50,000 to support the needs of its ageing veterans, some of whom required medical and nursing care, welfare services and financial assistance.

A total of 120 golfers made the 30 flights for the game held at Tasik Puteri Golf and Country Club in Rawang, Selangor.

Highlights of the event included an auctioned item – a naval ceremonial sword donated by Datuk Michael Lee Tai Foo – that managed to fetch RM10,000, and an oil painting featuring an auspicious dragon drawn personally and donated by Angie Phuah, which raised RM4,888.

The other main sponsors included Richard Tai from P2 Perodua, who chipped in with a Perodua Axia for a hole-in-one prize, Focus Point, who provided both cash and in-kind contributions and Rotol Group, who sponsored cash redeemable vouchers, including a RM1,000 voucher for a hole-in-one.

“Additional sponsorship came from IJM Corporation Berhad, Bonia, Fire Fighter Industry, First Pharmaceutical, Leong Hup Agrobusiness, Heineken, DIY, NSK and several other generous individuals,” said event organising chairman Capt (R) Pui Seng Tai.

The winners were Datuk Nelson Ho in the A Category, Foong KH in the B Division and Irene Hong in the Ladies’ Section.

There were also over 30 lucky draw prizes.

“At this year’s event, we managed to raise close to RM50,000, which is just short of our target of RM60,000.

“We continue to humbly appeal to kind donors to support our cause by making generous contributions to the association,” said Pui.

The guests of honour were Vietnamese ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh and Admiral (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor.
