OVER 1,500 people from two villages in Kulai can finally enjoy good Internet connection following the completion of two telecommunication towers, says Teo Nie Ching.

The Deputy Communications Minister said the towers, located at Kampung Murni Jaya 2 and Kampung Tersusun Murni Jaya in the Bukit Permai state constituency, had been in operation since March.

“The two villages are among areas with poor Internet connectivity.

“We often receive complaints from residents about the problem.

“Bukit Permai assemblyman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor has also highlighted the matter several times.

“I am glad that we are able to build the towers and the people here are finally able to enjoy good Internet connectivity, which has now become a basic need,” said Teo, who is also Kulai MP, after checking on the Internet speed of the two towers.

“The structures in the two villages here are among 56 towers that have been built and are fully operational in Johor under the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) project,” she said.

Mohd Jafni, who is also Johor housing and local government committee chairman, said he was thankful to the Federal government for the two towers, which cost about RM1.5mil each.

“I am particularly grateful to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Teo for their assistance in solving the Internet problem here.

“We have requested three towers to be built in Bukit Permai.

“Two of them have been completed while another one, at Felda Inas, is expected to be operating by September,” he said.

Mohd Jafni added that poor Internet connection is something people in the area had been facing for over a decade.

“Even when I was campaigning during the state election, the villagers were already complaining about the issue.

“Some young entrepreneurs shared their plight of having to go to the main road just to use the Internet, making it very difficult for them to run their businesses online.

“The two towers will not only solve connectivity issues for the people, but will also help boost their income,” he said.
