PROPERTY owners who have filed objections against Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) proposed assessment tax increase are urged to attend hearings from Aug 13 to 29 at the MBSA Convention Centre.

Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the council has received 5,918 objections on the proposed assessment tax increase that involved 11,576 properties.

“We expect about 5,000 property owners to attend the hearings.

“Our council has arranged two hearing sessions daily to be carried out from morning to late evening,” he said during the city council’s full board meeting yesterday.

“Those attending the hearing sessions should come prepared with documents and facts.

“Our officers won’t be able to do much if the people only put forward financial issues as evidence for their objections.”

Mohd Fauzi said when the hearing sessions conclude, the city council would compile the evidence that would be presented to councillors for discussion.

Constructive views would be endorsed, he added.

“Once these procedures, that take 17 days, are completed, the objections along with a detailed report will be handed to the Selangor government in early September for a decision,” said Mohd Fauzi.

After the full board meeting, the mayor met representatives from the Selangor contingent to the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) to be held in Sarawak.

In a simple ceremony, MBSA contributed RM25,000 in cash and sports equipment, including T-shirts and sports bags worth RM16,800 to help the athletes prepare for the games, which will be held from Aug 17 to 24.

MBSA is supporting teams in five sports namely indoor volleyball (men and women), beach volleyball (men and women), gymnastics, gymrama (rhythmic gymnastics using apparatus) and taekwondo.

While the indoor volleyball team received RM10,000, the beach volleyball received RM5,000. Gymnastics and gymrama sport received a total RM5,000 while taekwondo received RM5,000.

Mohd Fauzi said the city council was glad to adopt the five sports to help the athletes do their best in the games.

“Even though there are various challenges including financial constraints, we are confident our sporting personalities can achieve their targets while realising their ambitions at the biennial meet,” he said.

The Selangor contingent is targeting a haul of 61 gold medals for a top-three finish at the games.

At Sukma 2022, Selangor finished in fifth place with 130 medals – 31 gold, 55 silver and 44 bronze.
