AN EVENT called “Karnival Sukan Keluarga 50WP” was held in a bid to bring together Kuala Lumpur folk and to bridge the divide between city communities and the local authority.

Held at Taman Tasik Danau Kota over two days, the event was also a highlight programme for the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Federal Territories (FT).

The carnival, launched by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (FT) Dr Zaliha Mustafa, was vital in reaching out to the city folk.

“It is also a good opportunity for Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to showcase the various programmes they have.

“The carnival offers a variety of all-inclusive activities to ensure KL residents are involved and their voices heard,” she said in her closing speech.

Activities held included a poetry recital, cat marathon as well as arts and crafts exhibition.

Recreational sports such as wall climbing, fishing and archery were also held during the carnival.

Dr Zaliha also presented awards to 10 winners of the “Pasport 50WP” programme.

The road map challenge required participants to visit 50 locations in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan from Oct 1, 2023 to Feb 25, 2024.

The challenge received 7,750 entries and recorded 337 successful participants.

A total of 50 participants were selected as winners, based on a selection of pre-determined criteria and their passing of the final screening process.

Dr Zaliha also announced that 40,000 Jalur Gemilang would be distributed to government agencies, non-governmental organisations, residents’ representative councils and associations as well as educational institutions.

The distribution of the flags would also be extended to Labuan and Putrajaya.
